After 12 wonderful years in the classroom - the last two of which I focused entirely on teaching 6th grade math - I have come closer to realizing my dream as an educator. What's that, you say? I'd consider it the equivalent to winning an NBA championship if 100% of my students got a perfect score on a state exam. Until then, I'm celebrating what my most recent group of 6th graders accomplished. You may have guessed it by the bow tie I'm wearing in their honor. That's right - 100% of them scored proficient or better. In NYS terms that means they all scored a 3 or a 4 - 4 being the highest. What percent scored a 4? Um, 64%. Compare that to what the NY Daily News is reporting - only 60% of students throughout the city just passed their math exams. Am I proud of my students? YES! Do I think my job is done? Absolutely not. I just wish I had more money for bow ties! Maybe it's about time I really did hire an agent. LOL.

Day 183
Today's bow tie was gifted by the good folks at Forage. Check out their stuff here. I can't wait to check out the Alice Austen House with the fam tomorrow!

Day 161
I'm still battling a bit of the sniffles today, but it's too nice out to stay inside. After my morning WOD I went out for a run, searched for a new pair of compression pants (gearing up for that Spartan Sprint next month) and kicked back to enjoy the start of Euro 2012.
Today's bow was a gift from tiedeals.com.

Day 28
The Mrs. thinks I might want to consider trimming. Clearly our convictions don't align.
Yes, my friends - those would be my soccer socks hanging out. I have a bit of a confession to make. I don't wear bow ties while playing soccer on Friday nights.
Today's wonderfully plaid clip-on bow is from Lisa. Check out her awesome collection here.

Day 18
Feliz Miercoles my friends!
I can't believe it's already Wednesday. Ever wake up feeling like you know the day's going to turn out to be a great day? I have a hunch today's that type of day. We're converting between milliliters and liters using proportions today and judging by the strong momentum from yesterday's classes I think we'll be making solid strides in the world of capacity today.
Today's tie features one of my new favorites. As a father of three, I know each of my children ought to receive the same amount of endless love from the Mrs. and me and when it comes to my bow ties I kinda sorta feel the same way. This one stands out to me because of the lattice design on a warm grass cotton. It was handmade from The Belle and the Beau and I absolutely love it. Check out their collection some time!

Day 7
So what does a veteran teacher of 12 years end up doing even on Saturdays? He lesson plans! Sometimes I even lesson plan to some music and sing like I'm in the shower when I get writer's block. Here's a sample of what my iPod played: No Doubt, Michael Buble, Robin Thicke, Calle 13, and Pedro Fernandez. Eclectic much? Yup.
So my new friends Shauna and Stephen Alterio over at Forage sent me this lovely pairing of bow ties yesterday that I just HAD to start wearing today. Also, I finally get to wear another one of Lily's readers. We must have about ten readers that we share between the two of us. Good times. Enjoy the weekend - I can't believe it's 60 degrees in NYC!
