FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
1000 DAYS OF BOW TIES
Brooklyn, NY
A veteran teacher with over 12 years of teaching experience in the NYC public school system will soon be celebrating working for 1,000 consecutive days without taking a day off. How is he marking the occasion? He’s doing so by embarking on another 1,000 day challenge - wearing a bow tie for that many days straight.
“I normally wear bow ties as part of my work attire,” said Jeff Vasquez, known as Mr. Mathquez where he teaches 6th grade math at Achievement First Bushwick Middle School, “but I imagine wearing them will draw attention at the beach.”
The adventure is set to begin on January 1, 2012 and will conclude September 27, 2014. He’s planning on documenting his effort to raise money for the Achievement First network of schools in Brooklyn and Connecticut by using a blog called 1000daysofbowties.com.
“I’m hoping that by the achievement gap gets more attention as I draw a bit of attention to my personal style,” said Vasquez, who has already gained support from Randall Hanauer, Jr. of bowties.com who sent Vasquez over a handful of bow ties in show of support.
