So this evil stomach flu that's been spreading throughout the NYC public school system finally hit our home and claimed 3 out of 5 in our home this week. Last night I became a victim, too. Yikes. I'm rather thankful that I always seem to get sick when I'm not in the classroom. Hopefully I shake this off by Monday so I could resume wearing bow ties in public and not in between ... glasses of gatorate.
Great story - so yesterday we held our semesterly scholar dollar event - it's an invitation-only activity for kiddos who have kept their scholar dollar average (virtual dollars we use as merits/demerits during the school year) above a certain percentage. We decided to split up the event into video game rooms and one film room - and sell the movie, but give them a choice. We chose a movie that related to what they had been reading about in their Lit classes and that we thought might be engaging and appealing. None us who stayed to watch the movie with the kids expected the result. By the time Swing Kids was over, our kiddos were able to reflect on their personal connection to the film and say boldly, "I see the world from a different point of view." Character education is part of the mission statement our school proclaims. I'm fortunate to have been able to see it in action.
Now back to bow ties. Today's was a vintage find many many years ago. I reminds of a private school uniform. The hoodie I'm wearing was actually designed for our staff. It reads "Pride. Have some."
