Day 143

I think I may have already mentioned my love for running here, but I don't think I've gone into any sort of detail about how much I have enjoyed the first couple of weeks of training with our GTfit instructor. I guess you can call it a variation of a crossfit program that's completely tailored to you and sets you up for lifelong changes and challenges that enhance your lifestyle and allow you to evolve into the person you were meant to be. Sound deep? It is. I have tried so many things to get my wife and I on the same page about staying fit. We've had gym memberships, bought gym equipment, a Wii fit, a dvd collection of exercises - all great tools on their own, but always with a short-term goal: get ready for a wedding, get ready for the summer, get ready for the some mirror. It's quite similar to how some schools approach preparing for state exams. Teachers spend hours having their students complete workbooks full of isolated exercises, but never really challenge them to exercise their brain (also, a muscle) with enough variety to actually develop muscle memory of the mind. Ever wonder why the kiddos seem to forget everything after the test? Because they've only been trained to complete an exam, not to continue with their academic growth over time. I'm learning so much about the work I do as a school teacher based on how my wife and I are being pushed to grow out of our comfort zones. I encourage you to look for ways to get fit - especially with a friend or a loved one. I could go on and on about the benefits of having an accountability partner and I'm so grateful that mine happens to be my better half. For now, I'll transitio to talking bow ties and get back to lesson planning.

Today's bow comes via Xoelle. Have you checked out the new studio she's building? Amazing! If my family ever makes it to Hawaii it would be awesome to see it in person! Yup, it's that cool - just like this bow tie featuring lovely bicycles on grey cotton. Awesomesauce!
